HERITAGE PLANTATION HISTORIC PRESERVATION FOUNDATION (HPHPF).
| The place we call home, Heritage Plantation, was once two rice plantations. The northern part of Heritage was called Midway, the southern part was known as True Blue. Three hundred years ago this area was once the heart of the South Carolina rice country. Today, the area is a wonderful golf and boating community. |

| A small, gated cemetery tucked away near the fourth green has always been a part of our Heritage community, but little notice was taken of its historical significance, much less its upkeep. |

| Nancy Rogers, resident of Heritage Plantation, an historical researcher, lecturer and feature writer (with over 30 years experience) became interested in the fascinating history of True Blue. Her curiosity was piqued by this little cemetery .... Who were buried there? What were their lives like during rice planting days? As Nancy’s research about the people buried in the cemetery continued, she decided to attempt to restore and preserve the cemetery. Hence, the Heritage Plantation Historic Preservation Foundation was born! The Foundation’s Mission statement reads as follows: |
|
|
“To restore the historical cemetery at Heritage Plantation in a manner consistent with the guidelines set forth by the South Carolina Department of Archives and History and the Chicora Foundation. To engender proper respect for the rich history of the area and to reflect the concerns of the community with restoration including cleaning, weeding, debris removal as well as permanent fencing and historical markers. To create a process of perpetual care that remains intact for future generations.” |
