One of the most popular and enduring of the Heritage "Special Events" has been the "Heritage Nature Walk" Series. |
| You will recall that, starting last year, Ken W. and the Club Committee organized a series of Nature Walks covering a wide range of topics in our area. Eric Dean, a naturalist at Brookgreen Gardens, has been the main leader of the walks and the chief source of the scientific commentary. However, several other guest speakers have contributed on occasion. The first four walks were featured in December, 2004. |
| The latest in this series was a program held on January 16th about "Alligators & Snakes of Heritage." The program was conducted by Eric and special guests Ken Alfieri, Curator of Alligator Adventure and his 5 year old son, Kenny. These "critters" seem to provoke a certain fascination in all of us, both young and -- (what's the right word?) -- mature. Kay and Demi surveyed the nearby commercial alligator parks in July, 2004 and the Lighter Side of poked fun of our Heritage alligators in December, 2004. |

| Eric showed a small Caiman, a member of the alligator family. He couldn't bring one of our local guys because it's unlawful to transport them. Then (gasp!), he asked for audience participation. | ||

| Next up were Ken and Kenny, the snake experts. |
| They demonstrated that these snakes are harmless; emphasis on the word "these." |

| And then, here they go with that audience participation thing again! | |
