Heritage Happenings often features one of our own residents. This month is a special treat because this resident is a talented webmaster and wrote his own page! Without further ado, here is Peter E and his hobby.

Retirement is Cruisin’ with my 1957 Thunderbird
First Thunderbird
Retirement at Heritage Plantation is following my dream. I’ve always liked cars, convertibles especially, and now have time to enjoy it.
Here is my first T-Bird at a Charleston Air Show with an original Thunderbird Jet Aircraft.

Through most of life I’ve always had at least one convertible in the garage, but the one car I have always admired is the Ford Thunderbird… not just any Thunderbird, but an original, 2-seater, Ford Thunderbird. So when I retired, I bought a 1957 Ford Thunderbird - a Starmist Blue car with a White interior. I also joined the Thunderbird club, CTCI (Classic Thunderbird Club International) because I wanted to meet other Thunderbird owners and learn about the car. CTCI is an organization dedicated to support and enjoyment of the original classic Thunderbird with a membership of about 6,000 worldwide.

I soon discovered that the best way to learn about these cars was to be come a judge for CTCI. I have subsequently become a Senior Judge and have performed that duty at numerous Thunderbird conventions held annually around the country. I later was elected to the position of Director for the Southeast Region, a position I held for 4 years. One of those years I also served as Vice-President.

I now own another Thunderbird that I know you have seen cruising the neighborhood. Also a ’57, it is Gunmetal Gray with a Red Interior. The fun about having a classic car is to drive it, and drive it I do… since acquiring the car four years ago, I’ve driven it to Thunderbird Conventions in Kansas City, MO in 2003; Miami, FL in 2004; Cleveland, OH in 2005 and Wichita, KS in 2006. This year I participated in the Air Show and Classic Car Show at the Marine Air Station, Beaufort, Run-to-the-Sun Car Show and Kustom Car Show both in Myrtle Beach. Later this year it will go to New Jersey for the 2007 Thunderbird Convention. I also participate in various local car shows and cruise-ins around the Grand Strand area.

So if you see me cruisin’ around the neighborhood or down the highway, be sure to wave!
